Soweto Men’s circle
A vibrant Open Men’s Circle has been meeting monthly in Naledi, Soweto for more than a year, facilitated by Joburg MKP members many of whom grew up in Soweto.
“We are a circle of men who support each other to do inner work and become better men, with a vision and a mission to change the world for a better place” is the mission statement of the circle, which includes men from their twenties to 80s in age, and works on issues including accountability, integrity, personal and public leadership, diversity, family relationships and fatherhood.
Inspired by a request to support a Men’s Month run by the Naledi Community Policing Forum, the MKP community in Joburg held a Head, Heart and Soul men’s workshop at Naledi Community Centre on Madiba’s birthday in July 2009. Since then a passionate core group of Soweto men mainly from Naledi and Tladi have inspired more than 50 Soweto men to join the circle at various meetings. Three have attended the New Warrior Training Adventure as well, and successfully put on a second Head, Heart and Soul in February 2010.
